Topical pain relievers
Topical pain relievers can be applied to the skin over the affected joint as an alternative to, or in addition to, oral pain relievers. Topical pain relievers include methyl salicylate and capsaicin cream. Capsaicin, a substance obtained from hot chilies, may cause mild skin irritation or a burning sensation when applied to the skin.
